Your Logbook ... Accessible Anywhere In the World!

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

Pretty much like your paper logbook!  Except, you don't need a pen or pencil to fill it in. You can:

  • Track hours by type (Single or Multiengine, Rotorcraft, Gliders, even balloons)
  • Track Instrument Approaches and Time
  • Log Training, Cross Country, Solo Time, Pilot in Command, Second in Command, etc.
  • Log BOTH Pilot-in-Command AND Second-in-command on the same entry where appropriate
  • Record Day and Night landings and time.
  • Include almost unlimited comments about the flight.
  • Log currency activities that used a PCATD or FTD!
I'm a blimp pilot (or helicopter, or balloon...)

Awesome. I've got ya covered. In addition to all four Airplanes modes, you can log BALLOON, GLIDERS, HELICOPTERS, and AIRSHIPS, too. By the way, call me. I'd love a ride. :)

How do I examine my work?

In short, in just about any way imaginable. Some of the possibilities:

  • Look up flights by Tail Number.
  • Look up flights that were under Simulated Instruments, that were FILED IFR, and involved a particular airport.
  • Compare your hours in Single Engine versus Multi-Engine aircraft!
  • Look at EVERYTHING at once and see the bottom line totals.
  • Review flights with a particular INSTRUCTOR.
Ok, I can do that with my paper logbook. What can YOU do that I can't?

Simple answer: Find exactly the information you need in a fraction of a second. If you needed to see if you have satisfied the minimum 50-hours of Cross-Country as Pilot-in-Command time (for your instrument rating), you'll have to look at ALL of your cross country flights in your paper logbook, and manually add up the ones in which you were Pilot in Command. Querying the E-Logbook is SO MUCH faster.

E-Logbook will also help you avoid some common errors that can cost you logged time as well as the frustration of re-computing pages and pages of paper logs. Examples include:

  • Forgetting to log Night Time when a Night Landing was made.
  • Forgetting to log Solo time as Pilot in Command Time as well.
  • Accidentally recording MORE time in certain columns than the total time of the flight! (Yes, it happens!)
  • Miscalculating PIC vs SIC time.
  • Recording Instrument Approaches but forgetting to log Instrument Time.
  • .... and More!
So, what about tracking currency?

Easy. In just a few clicks, E-Logbook will tell you the likely expiration dates of:

  • Day Currency (3 landings in the past 90 days)
  • Night Currency (3 NIGHT landings in the past 90 days)
  • Instrument Currency (Six Approaches in Simulated or Actual Instruments in the last six calendar months)
I've got a check ride coming up, and I'm not looking forward to filling out that FAA FORM 8710-1, because that means hours of work between me and my logbook. Can you help?

Oh, Boy, Can I!  You have GOT to see the 8710 ASSISTANT. You can see a demo HERE. Of course, E-Logbook can only help you out if you have ALL of your flight activity stored in it...

O.K. I get it!  So I can throw away my paper logbook?

NO. Don't do that. Certain flight activities (training flights, for example) REQUIRE a SIGNED logbook entry. Endorsements are also tracked in your paper book. It's not possible for your CFI to "sign" E-Logbook, so you'd best keep your paper one current, too. The real power of E-Logbook isn't to REPLACE your paper logbook, it's to SUPPLEMENT your paper logbook. After all, it only takes a minute to record a flight in each one. The benefit to using E-Logbook comes in the REVIEW and CALCULATION which can save HOURS and HOURS of your time.

Can I link to your website?

Yes, please! If you wish to link to My-ELogbook.COM, please use this URL: http://www.my-elogbook.com

If you want your LOGBOOK to be linkable, you must select that option from your account settings (or when you register.) You will be provided a DIRECT URL to your logbook entries. Further details are located in the system.

So, what are the downsides.

Yes, there are downsides:

  • Please read the Terms of Service. There's information there you need to know. (Plus, I've tried hard to make it as brief as possible, unlike other mile-long agreements...)
  • This service is NOT GUARANTEED. There are no implied or expressed guarantees that this service will be available for any length of time. If an earthquake strikes the datacenter housing this website, it's possible the data will be lost.
  • KEEP TRACK of your entries!  You should print out your entire log on occasion and keep it on paper.
  • There may be bugs. Yes, I know, I'm not better than m**rosoft. Things will occasionally go wrong. If you see something wrong, contact me.
You're a pilot yourself, huh?

Yep. I caught the flying bug early, and am now an instrument rated private pilot, ASEL. You can read more about me at WWW.TONYLEARNSTOFLY.NET.

I LOVE E-Logbook. Can I help out in any way?

ABSOLUTELY! In several different ways, you can help make E-Logbook better:

  • PASS THE WORD!  Tell other pilot friends about E-Logbook.com!
  • Tell fellow pilots and other interested parties about our FORUM.
  • Download and Print this FLYER, and post it in your local FBO (with their permission, of course!) The more pilots, the better it gets!
  • Financial contributions help defray the costs of Web Hosting, licenses, research and development, as well as my own personal time and resources to bring this to you. IT IS VOLUNTARY, and graciously welcomed. See the SUPPORT US page for information.
  • CONTACT ME! If you find bugs, or have suggestions, please don't hesitate to write!  As is mentioned on the home page, E-Logbook is developed BY PILOTS --- FOR PILOTS!  (Even if you're not a pilot but you have a comment, I'd love to hear from you.)
