REGISTRATION

The registration requirements of this site are probably as brief as possible. You will be asked for Your name, e-mail address, a user-id, and a password, and an acknowledged agreement to our terms of service. THAT'S IT.

The USERID can be between 4 and 12 numbers and letters, and must not currently be in use.

Your PASSWORD must be between 4 and 8 numbers and letters.

Your e-mail address must be of the form of username@userdomain.tld. Periods are allowed in the username, but no special characters are allowed.

After a successful registration, you must return to the home page to log in. There is no waiting for your registration to become active.

LOGGING IN

The ONLY place from where you can log in is the HOME page.

You must allow COOKIES in order to log in.

You supply your userid and password in the appropriate blanks, and click the Log In button.

Assuming you provide valid information, you will see a brief welcome screen, and will be redirected to the user menu.

If you provide INCORRECT information, you will be notified, and given instructions on how to correct the error.

Once you are successfully logged in, the HOME page will no longer show you a log in block, but will instead greet you by your userid, provide you a link to the user menu, and provide some real-time statistics about the logbook system.

I FORGOT MY USER ID (or PASSWORD!)

If you forget either your user id or password, you can provide the system with your e-mail address, and it will e-mail them both to you. You must specify EXACTLY the same e-mail address you provided when you registered. If you no longer have access to that e-mail account, then you will be unable to retrieve your login information, and your account will likely expire.

It is possible to have MULTIPLE E-Logbook accounts using the same E-Mail address. If this is the case, the system will advise you of ALL the User IDs and their associated passwords.

If your e-mail is insecure, I would HIGHLY advise that you change your password as soon as possible.

VIEWING THE LOGBOOK & MAKING QUERIES

All views of your logbook begin with a Query. The query form looks similar to this:

DATES

You can specify any combination of begin or end date, or leave both blank.

If both are left blank, all dates will be included (actually, not if the date is before 1971 or after 2099.)

If you specify a BEGIN date (the top blank), only flights with a date on or after that date will be considered. Likewise, if you only specify an END date, then flights on or before that date will be shown. If both are specified, the flight must occur on or between the dates shown. Thus, if the BEGIN and END date are the same, only flights occuring ON that data will be seen.

AIRCRAFT

This is a text field. When providing data in this field, the flight recorded in the log must have an IDENTICAL aircraft record. If left blank, Aircraft is not used in the query.

IDENT.

Typically, this is the tail number you're interested in. It must be given exactly as it was recorded in the log. If left blank, ALL Identifiers are used.

AIRPORT

This is a 3 or 4 character FAA or ICAO identifier for an airport. If this field is used, that ID must appear in either the ORIGIN, DESTINATION, or ROUTING (via) for the flight you recorded. If you leave this blank, ANY airport will satisfy the query.

In the example above, ADM must have been recorded in the origin, destination, or routing to satisfy the query.

REMARKS

Will include flights that contain the fragment, word, or phrase you provide here. For example, if you put the word "test" in the REMARKS blank, it will find flights that include ... "...Test..." or "Testing...". If you provide the words "night flight" in remarks, that will match things like "Tonight flight ended..." or "no night flight allowed", but will NOT match things like "Flight tonight". If left blank, no remarks are considered.

FLIGHT TYPE

You can select to have the query show you flights that were marked VFR, IFR, or Either. One of these selections MUST be made.

TIME GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO

If you specify a number in ANY of these blocks, flights must have a time recorded equal or greater than that amount in the SAME block. If you specify a number in MORE than one block, then the flight MUST SATISFY ALL values.

In addition, you can restrict the display to only a specific category of aircraft by using the drop-down list on the top blank.

TYPE

If you check any of these boxes, then the flights queried must have time recorded in those same selections. If more than one box is selected, then the flights shown must have had time recorded in ALL of the boxes you selected. The times need not match, however; they just must be greater than 0.

INCLUDE COLUMNS FOR

Selections in this section do NOT affect the query in any way, it only affects how the results are displayed. Selecting multiple boxes will cause the query to include time colums (or, in the case of CFI, IAPS, and RULE, just the columns themselves) for the selections you request.

There are several BLANK checkboxes. Do not use those; they will have unexpected results.

INCLUDE CURRENCY QUERIES

Checking this block will allow the Log Calculator to predict when your DAY, NIGHT, and INSTRUMENT currencies expire.

Currency can be a complex issue. As stated in the Federal Aviation Regulations:

14-CFR-61.57(a)(ii): The required takeoffs and landings were performed in an aircraft of the same category, class, and type (if a type rating is required), and, if the aircraft to be flown is an airplane with a tailwheel, the takeoffs and landings must have been made to a full stop in an airplane with a tailwheel.

E-Logbook doesn't track flights by AIRPLANE categories, which include: NORMAL, LIMITED, UTILITY, TRANSPORT, etc.

Nor does it track AIRPLANE classes, which include, AIRPLANE, ROTOR, GLIDER, etc. These may seem similar to the AIRMAN CLASS of ASEL, AMEL, etc, but they are NOT the same. They are SIMILAR enough, however, than you can give E-Logbook a clue as to which CLASS you are interested in.

When selecting "Include Currency Queries," you must also select a a "Time In..." type (such as AMEL, ASEL, etc). The mappings to currency will then be:

ASEL, AMEL, ASES, AMES: AIRPLANES
ROTOR: ROTORCRAFT
GLIDER:  GLIDER
AIRSHIP:  AIRSHIP
BALLOON: BALLOON

E-Logbook CANNOT predict Tail-Wheel currency, or Type-specific currency, if that applies to you, nor will any of the exceptions outlined in 14CFR61.57 be considered.

When all of your selections are made, click the Process! button to see and review the results, which will looks like this (assumes you had selected the CURRENCY queries...)

The first column will ALWAYS be the E/D selection (Edit or Delete.)

You can select a flight to EDIT, and click the appropriate button at the bottom of the list. This will load that flight into the editor where you can make corrections.

Or, if you wish to DELETE the flight entirely, acknowledge that you wish to DELETE (by checking the box) and then press the DELETE button. The flight will be deleted from your logbook.

The next columns will always indicate the DATE, TYPE, IDENT, ROUTE, REMARKS, and LANDINGS data recorded.

Any following columns will be displayed based on the selections you made in the query.

Since REMARKS and ROUTES can be quite large, the table will abbreviate the display, and show an ICON indicating that more text exists. You must hover your mouse over the ICON to view the text. Some browsers limit even this display, so if you don't see the entire contents, you must load the flight into the editor to view the comments.

ADDING NEW ENTRIES

The ADD block (also used for Editing) looks similar to this:

This form is shown completed as an example.

The ROSE colored cells are required (or at least a portion of that cell)

The system enforces the following rules:

  • The date format is based on MM/DD/YYYY. Do NOT attempt to use another format. Even though an entry of 08/09/2007 and 09/08/2007 would both be valid, the sorting and searching will not work if the format is not followed. In this example, the date is July 2, 2007, not February 7, 2007.
  • Aircraft types must be 2 to 16 alphanumeric characters.
  • The Aircraft Ident must be 1 to 6 alphanumeric characters.
  • Origin and Destination must be 3 or 4 alphanumeric characters. Pilots often use the destination "LCL" to indicate a Local Flight, or one that didn't actually go anywhere.
  • You can provide up to 23 additional characters for the VIA, or Routing.
  • CFI can be up to 23 characters.
  • You must specify if the flight was made under VFR or IFR rules.
  • Landings data is, of course, numeric only. Values are from 1 to 99, or blank.
  • You MUST indicate at least ONE landing, be it day or night, unless the TYPE is PCATD or FTD.
  • IAPS may range from 1 to 99, or blank.
  • Times, if recorded, MUST include a decimal, i.e., "1.0" is valid, "1" is not.
  • Times recorded for TRAINING, SOLO, PIC, CROSS-COUNTRY, NIGHT, IMC, or SIMULATED INSTRUMENT time CANNOT exceed the TOTAL time.
  • If you record NIGHT LANDINGS, you must record some NIGHT TIME.
  • If you record times in "Type" of flight, you must manually mark the checkbox to indicate the flight consisted of Non-Zero times.
  • If you leave Times in Type blank, but mark the checkboxes, TOTAL time will be assumed for those values.
  • The sum of PIC and SIC time cannot exceed TOTAL time.
  • You cannot record SIC time if SOLO is used.
  • You can only record IAPs if you also record either IMC or SIMULATED INSTRUMENT time.

Once you have completed the form, press SUBMIT to add it to your logbook.
